Sports related injuries
With the ongoing interest in sports in all ages, there is also an increased prevalence of foot and ankle-related injuries.

Podiatric sports medicine often involves treatment of heel spurs, plantar fascitis (arch and/or heel pain), Achilles tendonitis, muscle strain, high arches (pes cavus), flexible low arches (pronation), knee pain secondary to improper foot function, leg pain (shin splints) and related low back pain.

The average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps each day on pavement, tiles, and other surfaces. With each step, a gravity induced pressure of about three to four times the body's weight bears down on each foot.
